I'm keen to see you at my dental clinic in Ashburn should you suffer from a broken dental crown. Ashburn dentist Fotolia_7053191_XS.jpg

Crowns do break. Crowns that I provide in my Ashburn dental crown office are very durable. In fact, they could give you 15 years. Even longer. And sometimes even shorter.

If you take some of the best crowns being made today, even they may need to be changed sooner than you expect if you don't take care of them. If you grind your teeth while asleep, it could give you problems. Many people do this though they probably don't know it.

And you get others who chew aggressively when they eat, or chew on ice.

When a dental crown cracks, it is mostly down to the porcelain. At the very least, it would be the porcelain part of the crown. Gold and metal amalgams are pretty much immune to fracturing because of their ability to bend and adapt to grinding and other pressure-related actions of your jaw.

This is what makes them ideal material for underpinning dental crowns.

The problem with metals is that they don't look very nice. The answer is to fuse porcelain with the metal crown. Even better is to give you metal-free ceramic crowns. But you are sacrificing durability for looks.

The best thing about porcelain is how real they look. It is because it is translucent and smooth. However, they are pretty soft. They can't adapt to the punishment from the vigorous act of chewing or grinding.

And another thing. Porcelain is a frail substance so damage on one part will lead to damage on other parts.

Broken porcelain crowns are not good. If you find your crown is cracked, you need to replace it with a new one. Not only will they not look good, it could result in an infection. If you come to us too late, the harm may be such that we must replace your whole tooth. Quite possibly using a dental implant.

Therefore, if you're in the area and have suffered a damaged Ashburn dental crown, it will be a pleasure to have you here and allow myself and my excellent team to give you the best possible treatment.
