It can be quite uncomfortable for teeth when they are sensitive to hot or cold? It is pretty infuriating, no doubt about that. To make sure this doesn't happen, I would first give you a temporary crown that I would later substitute with a permanent crown, once it has been made. This is the best way to protect yourself from the buzzing feeling during the time you wear the temporary crown.

What convinces someone to get a crown? Well, there are many factors. It could be that you have a tooth that has seen better days. You want to save it from getting any worse. Also, you may use a crown to keep a crumbling tooth in one piece. Some people opt to put a crown on a tooth that has already been damaged or seriously worn out. You have some people with a big filling. However, it needs support from a crown when only a small part of the tooth is left. Dentists will also use crowns to hold bridges, or envelope blemished or broken teeth, or blanket a dental implant.

Here in my Ashburn dental office, I first need to do some preparatory work on your crown. I will level off your tooth to remove the uneveness. While I'm performing my task, I have to remove a small part of your enamel. This is the outer covering of the teeth that provides protection for your teeth from a host of natural and man-made hazards. It has greater significance, though, because it provides excellent protection for the nerves you find within the root of your tooth.

Because of the missing enamel, your tooth will be more sensitive than usual. Even using toothpaste won't help. The quick-fix crown will then be given to you as a stop-gap measure.

I make a mold of your prepped tooth and the opposite tooth. This is important for your bite, so that is will not be uneven. Then I put the material into a mold. It is similar to playing with plaster of Paris. When the plaster is dry, the temporary crown is cemented on to the tooth.

That is all there is to it. You can now relax with a protective, albeit temporary, crown.
