It is hard to believe that coffee is now a recreational drink. Perhaps it has to do with the plush coffee clubs offering instant relief to sleepy nerves. Perhaps due to the round-the-clock jobs. Each one of us can give a different reason for liking coffee but none of us can say that it is entirely healthy to drink so much. It is not good for the heart, we need to go to the loo a lot and it spoils our teeth by discoloration. And if we don't use a toothbrush, it will result in halitosis, which is a glorified term that simply means you've got bad breath. Ashburn dentist Fotolia_6993427_XS.jpg

If you drink lots of coffee AND smoke, then you've got more problems. This is what causes younger folks suffering from discoloration in their teeth. Drinking beverages like sodas can also make your teeth go off color. It also depends on your age and your genes.

Don't follow baseballers and chew tobacco. This habit is a known cause of teeth stains. The tar that comes from tobacco goes into the teeth's protective enamel and gives us smiles as black as those of coal miners who have been down for days on end. I am happy, though, that the dangers of tobacco are well known, the result being that many people have decided to quit the habit.

We mentioned sodas earlier on. Let's explore this. Get a tooth and immerse it into a vessel of cola or any kind of soda. After a while you will see something happen. The soda will erode the tooth in a matter of hours. We all know sodas are harmful but I'm not confident we can avoid these teeth-eating drinks. It is better if we can use a straw for sodas. That way, we can significantly cut down on how much beverage gets to our teeth, and thus stop the stains. The thing about straws is they don't really work for hot beverages, such as coffee or green tea, which I drink a lot of.

With all the things we eat and drink, it's hard to get away from staining completely. If you suffer from those unsightly stains, don't worry. I can help you rid yourself of the stains. When you have the time, come to my Ashburn dentist office and give me a chance to assess what needs to be done. I can then decide whether a nice cleaning can do the job or we have to do an extraction…
